Notable Tintin events as the new academic year arrives...
There have been all kinds of things happening over the past few months and there is a lot more still to come this year. Before we list these events some news regarding a Tintinesque science project we have been following for over a year: on Tuesday 26 July 2016 the Solar Impulse solar-powered aeroplane landed in Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates), completing a 42,000-kilometre journey over four continents. Professor Calculus had to be there, obviously!
Over the course of the next few months our news columns will be filled with exciting information. It is the moment to get out your diaries and calendars, and jot down what's coming up (see programme).

BPOST AND TINTIN MAGAZINE ! 22 AUGUST 2016
Bpost pays homage to a pioneer in comic strip publications with special stamps.
The sheet of stamps was based on the front cover of the second issue of the magazine.
Designer Myriam Voz says, “It is an original idea. I was asked to make the sheet of stamps portray a front cover. But I had to take into account that there were two versions of the magazine: French and Dutch. In the end, technically it was too difficult to make two different sheets.”
For more information, click here! (p. 11)
The original idea was to have the two covers facing each other on the sheet – enough to delight both Tintin fans and stamp collectors.
The stamp sheets will be available from 22 August at the Brussels Philaboutique (10 am to 1 pm and 2 pm to 5 pm), Boulevard Anspach 1, 1000 Brussels.
A special early sale will be organised on 20 August from 10 am to 3 pm at the following address: Casino Modern Genk, André Dumontlaan 2, 3600 Genk.
For those who cannot travel to either of the physical locations to acquire the stamps, the stamps sheet will also be available on the Bepost online shop..
AN INCREDIBLE ADVENTURE
Created in September 1946 by Raymond Leblanc and his two partners, Tintin magazine would have been 70 years old this year. To celebrate the birthday, Le Lombard and Editions Moulinsart are publishing an exceptional book about the magazine.
The book has no less than 777 pages, including 600 pages of comic strips accompanied by a chronological retrospective of Tintin magazine written by Philippe Goddin.
Of course Hergé plays a big role – more than 70 pages bring together legendary covers, drawings, calendar illustrations and numerous other contributions by the artist.
A MAGNIFICENT POSTER
To mark this exceptional event, Johan De Moor, son of Bob De Moor (Hergé's right-hand man in his Studios), drew the amazing poster for the 2016 festival.
TRAM 94
Great news! The Hergé Museum Tintin train will circulate around the Place des Palais over the three days of the festival.

The author developed his characters and stories to reflect the times he lived in. Today he is considered a major author and artist, with 250 million books sold in over 100 languages.
