Melissa Mathison, screenwriter for ET, has passed away at the age of 65
Everyone at Tintin.com is saddened to hear of the death of Melissa Mathison, the Oscar-nominated writer behind the classic films ET: The Extra Terrestrial (Steven Spielberg) and Kundun (Martin Scorsese).
Mathison passed away on Wednesday this week, after suffering from cancer. She was aged 65.
It was Melissa Mathison who introduced Steven Spielberg to The Adventures of Tintin. Speaking following the news of her death, Spielberg said: “Melissa had a heart that shined with generosity and love and burned as bright as the heart she gave ET.”
Spielberg and Mathison recently reunited on the screenwriter's final project, an adaptation of Roald Dahl's The BFG. Melissa Mathison will be sorely missed by Hollywood and by millions of fans all over the world.
