Certainly a more adult orientated, film-noire type adventure. And bigoted Herge is back in full force: he basically insinuates that Bordurians and Syldavians (a proxy for Eastern Europeans) are all ugly. At least in reference to all participants in the skirmish at the embassy. Sure they are thugs, but Herge has a reputation for ambiguous nuance.
The running gag involving Mr Cutts the butcher begins in this album, and, quite frankly, is too lame to have lasted through as many albums as it did.
One of the most political album, probably not the most famous, but the story if you know as a fan of Tintin, will become after years one of the Best you might appreciate. A very smart album! Personally my favorite!
